Arvind Kejriwal led Aam Aadmi party has contributed in at least two important ways. One ,stoping the Narinder Modi juggernaut and the spread of the saffron imprint,it has given a massive shocker to the BJP and humbled it out of its arrogant mode, revealing that its Hindutva Agenda and fascist agenda finds little acceptability among the public. Second,it has imbued hopes of a new genre of politics in this country-one that stands in contrast to casteism and communalism being the base of electoral politics. It also imbues hope of corruption free goveranance. It also reveals that Indian electorate finds the politics of hate, communalism and autocracy abhorrent, has rejected dynastic politics and can see through the politics of delusionary tactics. This is significant as it shows how deeply embedded democratic ethos and secular polity are in the Indian society by and large. How the phenomenon finally pans out, however, may be far more significant ultimately for what has begun well would be an anathema if it unable to sustain itself. Aam Aadmi Party, born out of movement and comprising of people from various walks of life, with no particular political histories, promises not just good, transparent and clean governance. And,it also has a youthful energy that strikes a chord with the public, irrespective of their social groupings or their economic status. That sounds good and it is essentially for this reason that party got a resounding victory in the Delhi elections. But can the goodwill generated go beyond this huge electoral victory and translate into a democratic victory by fulfilling the aspirations and meeting the expectations of the public. The electorate in Delhi has given AAP a huge mandate and as Arvind Kejriwal himself admits, this is not only something to rejoice but also”something very scary”.Huge mandates comes with a greater degree of responsibility to meet the huge expectations. Aap rise to power comes not simply with promise of providing an alternate party but an alternative that promises to cleanse the stinking rot within the system. The expectations raised are far more than the hugely unrealistic and vision-less dreams of”ache Din “sketched by Narinder Modi led BJP in run up to Lok Sabha elections eight months ago. The Delhi verdict signalling the virtual rout of the BJP and its plummeting fortunes reveals the anger and disenchantment with BJP which has failed to even begin performing. And before that, increasing disillusionment and anger has pushed the traditionally most acceptable Indian party since decades into almost oblivion. Failure on AAP,s part would immensely increase the levels of frustration, not just adversely impacting the fortunes of this party but also hopes of an effective third alternative in this country. In the course of Indian Political Landscape, whatever ultimate shape the Aam Aadmi Party phenomenon takes, it will be difficult to ignore its imprint in the future socio-political Landscape. Will it usher in a new paradigm of politics or will it completely fail to come up to the expectations of the people and plunge the nation into abysmal depths of disillusionment and cynicism that has off late begun to dictate electoral politics in this country, from which it will be difficult to bail it out, from where the future will look bleak with probable fragmentation of the society, splintering the country and the prospects of a violent revolution. The AAP Victory comes with huge risks but risks that are worth taking. If it manages to sustain itself in the days to come, and perform even half of what it has promised, there is a major hope for rest of the country. Its probable success may not find space for the party in every nook and corner of the country but it would definitely alter the idea of politics and system of governance everywhere in a way that would be good and healthy for a democracy. For its own sake and for the sake of not just Delhi But rest of the country ,AAP will have to deliver. As of now, let,s just count on that.Fingers crossed.
